The idea of the digital tapestry is that it brings together individual creativity as a single coherent image.
The art promotes activity, creativity and community.
The final result is a stunning and unique piece of art that is a conversation piece and that provokes activity and interest.
It is best to start with an idea of the final combined image and the location that the mural will be displayed
The next stage of the project is to create a library of pictures, these could be local landmarks, people in the community, doors in a town, the more individual pictures the better the final image will be.
These can be shot on a camera phone and the most important part of these image is to keep them simple and clear.
They should reflect the community and the locality.
These images can be manipulated to produce artistic variations of each shot and add colour if this required.
Extra images can be obtained by allowing all parts of the community to submit images if this is wanted.
The library of images are then gathered together and the final image is produced by the use of a piece of software that places each image and ensures that repeat pattern and randomness of the library images, this file is output to print.
The finished piece when viewed up close will show individual images a little larger than a postage stamp, when the viewer steps back to about 2 to 3 metres the individual images merge to show the overall image.
The participants and community will take pleasure in finding individuals who are featured in the digital tapestry and enjoy the overall effect and the fact that it is the work of the people in the picture.
